Jacobson Golf Course Design, Inc. (Architect, ASGCA)

Doug began his pursuit of a lifelong dream to become a golf course architect by attending West Virginia University and receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture. The following year was spent with a firm in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania becoming familiar with plant material and design for residential and commercial landscape applications. This experience was influential in shaping Doug's interpersonal skills for dealing with people and integrating their ideas in a collaborative effort to execute design philosophies and concepts.

The following year Doug entered into the golf course industry through the construction discipline which is essential to even the greatest designs. In 1992, Doug accepted a position with one of the most highly respected contractors in the country, Wadsworth Golf Construction Co. of Plainfield, IL. Upon completion of Diamond Run, Doug was selected as a key member of the project team to construct a new 18-hole course and upgrade an existing irrigation system at Fort Bliss Army Base in El Paso, Texas. Doug executed numerous on-site services as the Quality Control Engineer and was later promoted to Project Superintendent during the grassing and grow-in of the project.

Doug's excellent organizational skills and successful completion of the Fort Bliss Project resulted in an opportunity for him to relocate to the corporate offices of Wadsworth to become an Estimator. While in the corporate office, Doug worked closely with several of the most knowledgeable individuals in the golf industry. Doug became intimately familiar with the intricacies involved in executing a project from the bid process through the completion of construction.

Doug's exposure with working on projects throughout the country and executing designs by many world renowned architects has established a very unique knowledge base. As a Senior Designer for Jacobson Golf Course Design, Inc. since 1997, Doug has been involved in several of our award winning designs. The new courses in which Doug has been our Lead Designer are: Thornberry Creek Country Club in Green Bay, WI; Hunters Glen in Crivitz, WI; The Broadlands in North Prairie, WI; Morningstar Golf Club in Waukesha, WI; Vista Links in Buena Vista, VA and the Club at Strawberry Creek in Kenosha, WI.

Two of Doug’s renovation projects received acclaims by Crittenden Magazines with North Shore Country Club (2nd Place “Renovation of the Year-2004” Private) and Indian Lakes Resort (Finalist “Renovation of Year-2004” Public). He has proven to be a valuable resource for our clients throughout the process of implementing a golf course development project. Doug is a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA), Golf Course Superintendents Association (GCSAA), Midwest Golf Course Superintendents Association (MGCSA), Urban Land Institute (ULI) and a design and Construction Committee member for the American Resort Development Association (ARDA). He also recently accepted a position on the City of Palatine’s Planning Commission for a 4 year term that started in 2011.
