OUR PHILOSOPHY

As golf architects, our sole objective is to utilize our collective talents, abilities, and experiences in a collaborative effort with our clients and their consultants to provide golf at its best. It is this focused commitment, along with a creative knowledge and passion for the art and strategy of golf architecture that has made us one of the leading golf architecture firms in the world today.

UNIQUE - With a willingness to adopt new ways of thinking from one project to the next in a manner that best fits the land and our clients' objectives, the only common style found in our courses is that they are unique. This is made possible by our broad creative range and our ability to uncover what is distinctive in the site.

STRATEGIC - Anyone can design a difficult golf course, or with enough restraint produce a "playable" design. But, to design a golf course that embodies strategic variety, interest and option for players of all abilities, requires an in-depth knowledge of the subtleties of the game and an understanding of how to incorporate them in the planning and construction process - a knowledge and understanding that few truthfully have. Like the best early golf course architects whose focus on substance produced golf courses of a timeless quality, we bring an uncommon insight to the strategic side of golf architecture and the commitment to make it a foundation of our design.

VALUE - Regardless of the expectations of the project or the perceived constraints that may exist, there are no sound reasons why the project objectives cannot be exceeded in the most cost effective, quality driven, manner possible. This is how we define value. We work to achieve this value through an extraordinary attention to detail, excercising our broad creative range, producing comprehensive/buildable construction documents, and critical selection of the best construction talent.

SUSTAINABILITY - Our commitment is to design and build golf courses that last, realizing that design ideas are only great if they can be built in a quality manner, and that quality can be sustained within the natural and economic environment of the project.

COLLABORATION - We believe for any golf course development project to be a success, it must be done in the true spirit of collaboration. The collaborative nature of Tripp Davis and Associates begins within our firm, as we are not a firm that assigns a project to a specific associate. Rather, we are each heavily involved in every project we commit to, sharing our own respective knowledge, experiences, and talent. This collaborative spirit extends to our approach to working with our clients, their consultants, and golf course builders as we continually show how great golf courses are made possible through a team effort where everyone's input is considered valuable.

PASSION AND COMMITMENT - As strong as your abilities, talent, and approach may be, you must have a passion for, and a commitment to, the work you are doing for the results to be as good as they can be. For this reason, we will only accept those projects that ignite a passion in us and to which we can faithfully commit the time and focus needed to perform at our best. In this way, the design and construction process is a craft, rather than a production.

RESTORATION/RENOVATION - We simply cannot ignore that our golf courses and the game of golf are in a constant state of evolution. Our role as golf architects is to help golf courses adapt to change in a way that does not lose sight of the past, while being prepared to evolve in a manageable and sustainable way. Managing evolution is best accomplished through the development of a comprehensive Master Plan - adhering to this Master Plan as any work is done to the course, maintenance related or otherwise.

Tripp Davis is a well-regarded historian of golf and golf architecture, a passion he has used to maintain a limited number of commissions to serve as a consulting golf architect during the restoration of some of the most historic and classical courses in the country. This experience of implementing classic golf course design principals in reconstruction efforts has also been put to good use in the renovation of numerous golf courses around the country, many of which have been private clubs. Mr. Davis understands the unique needs of both private and public golf courses and what is involved when working within the framework of club boards and committees. Tripp Davis is the most uniquely qualified golf architect in the business, but more importantly gives his all - his experience, knowledge, unique insight, pride and passion - to every project Tripp Davis and Associates are proud to be a part of.

Products and Services

Tripp Davis and Associates' vast portfolio includes New Course Design work, as well as an extensive list of Restoration/Renovation Designs.

In general, it is our objective to conduct a thorough planning, design, and construction process and promote an enjoyable working environment for all involved with the project. Our collective efforts will result in developing the best of golf experiences in a manner that provides the best economic opportunity for the Owner and the Operator, and works in harmony with surrounding land uses. Whether we are working with a new course or renovation/restoration project, the process follows a sequence of the following phases:

The principal objectives of Preliminary Planning is to ascertain the complete requirements of the Project and develop a "Road Map" to successful completion. During this phase we meet extensively with the Owner, the Project Engineer, Land Planners, Environmental Consultants, Market/Feasibility Consultants, and others who will have input.

During Design Development, we begin the detailed process in more depth to determine more specifically how we will be creatively addressing the strategy of the course, grading and drainage, cart path circulation, planting, and permitting. As we move through this phase, we are constantly monitoring what impact these issues will have on cost and we work to identify the most efficient and functional methods.

Our objective with preparing Construction Documents is to make them comprehensive, yet very understandable. With the quality of Plans and Specifications that we produce, Golf Course builders are postured to provide tight bids and perform quality work.

As the Golf Architect, we are best able to "Tell the Story" of the Golf Course. As a result, we will be available to participate as needed in any marketing programs and be present for any on-site media, membership and public relations events. We are committed in assisting to make the golf course a financial and overall success.

History

Mr. Davis founded Tripp Davis and Associates in 1994 with the objective of maintaining a small enough project load so that he and his staff could provide an unwavering focus on each project. He has maintained that focus and the result is a distinguished, and purposely short, list of golf courses that have drawn universal praise.

With a Masters level education in Landscape Architecture, where his Thesis Research was "The Environmental Impact of Golf Course Construction," Mr. Davis approaches golf architecture from the perspective of a player that was a member of the 1989 National Championship Golf Team and a NCAA All-American selection while at the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Davis continues to play in several prestigious amateur events each year. His abilities as a player give him a unique insight into those subtle details in strategy that can make a golf course an interesting challenge for better players, while proving to be an enjoyable test for average players. His knowledge of the game has also been incorporated into the development of practice facilities that give players the opportunity to practice the right shots in the right way - expanding their golf abilities and their appreciation for the game.
