Employee Turnover at Golf Facilities

Turnover Rate is 19% for Golf Facility Personnel

The National Golf Foundation created the first database of golf facilities when it was founded in 1936. The database has been maintained ever since, and currently contains nearly 16,000 daily fee, municipal and private facilities.

The database includes over 50,000 individual contacts, including owners, managers, golf professionals and superintendents. During the course of verifying facility information via telephone (which NGF does at least once each year), staff makes over 100,000 changes.

These changes include things like facility names and addresses – yes, the actual names of over 250 facilities change during the course of a typical year. And, even though golf courses don’t move, nearly 900 per year experience changes in their street addresses.

Also included in these changes are personnel changes – staff leaving or arriving at facilities. NGF estimates that, out of 50,400 facility key personnel nationwide, about 9,800, or 19%, change jobs annually. Some of these are due to retirement, nevertheless a lot of job mobility is to be expected in the golf course industry.
