Business Member Profile

The Golf Resource Group (GRG) is the country’s leading resource management consulting group to the golf industry. Our background developing golf-specific efficiency programs combined with our experience in golf course design and long-term management has positioned the firm as the national leader in energy efficiency, water conservation, and carbon footprinting services. Our mission is simple: To integrate efficient strategies that make your golf facility more efficient, profitable and playable. The results achieved on behalf of our clients are a testimony to the value of our expertise.

GRG was formed in 2002 by Mike Hansen, a superintendent, and Alex Walton, a clubhouse manager. GRG was launched upon the acquisition of a maintenance contract through Vanguard Golf Management Group and Thanksgiving Point Golf Course in Lehi, Utah. Andrew Staples joined the company in late 2003, bringing golf course design and construction management into the fold. Fully positioned as a turn-key golf course development company, GRG quickly became a nationally recognized development consultancy.

Within 12 months of forming the trio, GRG was able to tie down its first turn-key golf project – The Sand Hollow Resort. GRG has designed, maintained or consulted with over 125 courses throughout the world. Projects include the design of The Golf Club at Sand Hollow Resort in Hurricane, Utah, a three year implementation plan at the reconstructed Coyote Willows Golf Course in Mesquite, Nevada, maintenance contracting at Thanksgiving Point Golf Course in Lehi, Utah, and energy management and sustainability consulting to courses throughout the U.S. including Arizona, California, Colorado, Massachusetts and Nevada. Our sustainable philosophy has forged our reputation as industry leaders in golf course development. This philosophy has proven to make GRG’s golf courses better. Our golf courses have won awards for their design merit while also taking their rightful place in the environmental community for responsibly handling their resources and operational budgets.

In order to address changes in the development environment and stay at the forefront of the golf industry in 2009, GRG joined forces with Staples Energy Marketing and Services (http://www.StaplesEnergy.com), a national energy efficiency marketing and public relations firm based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The GRG/Staples Team employs over 80 people in five offices – Sacramento, California, Bakersfield, California, Monterey, California; Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Phoenix, Arizona. GRG dba Staples Golf Resource Group, LLC is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona.

Products and Services

Golf courses hire GRG to help them save money by reducing resource use and becoming more efficient. When a course has exhausted all their normal avenues of cost cutting or revenue generation, they hire GRG for our expertise in water, energy, fuel, and resource management. We work with management and club committees to educate them on the opportunities available at their particular course, providing detailed cost-benefit analysis during every step of the process. GRG then works hand in hand with the club to implement all agreed upon measures, drawing upon our network of industry professionals as necessary.
